In general, all technologies, techniques, tools that are currently used by illustrators can be divided into four types: traditional (pencils, paints, inks, felt-tip pens, etc.) and non-traditional (embroidery, paper, plasticine, etc.). ) computer, associated with the use of only computer programs (for example, digital illustration created on the basis of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator); mixed (mixed media), based on mixing traditional and computer methods; animation (video), used to set an illustration in motion, create an effective presentation or film with moving illustrations.
Computer illustration, which has appeared and the age of the latest technologies, is a worthy competitor to traditional illustration, which was done in various techniques by hand. Today, mastering the skills of digital illustration is both simple and difficult at the same time. Thanks to these programs, you can imitate any tools (pencils, pastels, watercolors, oil paints, felt-tip pens), apply filters (blur, stylization, texture, imitation, etc.) use a variety of textures (paper, wood, grunge, grass, water, etc.) for greater expressiveness of the illustration; experiment with layer blending modes) mix with different styles, transform images, change the size of the canvas, save the illustration at different stages of work.
The drawing begins with a preliminary sketch, which is created on paper. Next, the image goes through the scanning process. It is better to scan in the “bitmap” or “black and white stroke” mode, since in it the scanner ignores most halftones and many corrections; traces of erased lines, fingerprints and remains of pencil lines should be scanned with a very high resolution. After scanning the file, you need to switch it to monochrome mode, since otherwise most operations will be impossible. Now you should remove everything from the layer that is not an outline.
In Photoshop, to do this, you need to perform the following steps: copy the background layer, since it is impossible to cut a “hole” in the background, delete the background layer (it is no longer needed) on a new layer using the “magic wand”, select any white area. Be sure to set the sensitivity of the “magic wand” to zero and turn off “smoothing”; select other white areas using the "similar" function and delete all selected pixels. If all the settings were correct, the outline should remain in the document, completely cleanly separated from the background. Now you can correct the last flaws in the drawing. If somewhere a line accidentally turns out to be too thick or a blot appears, the excess is removed using the lasso or eraser tool. Unsuccessful elements are replaced with options drawn next to each other. Thus, we have a ready-made digital illustration that we can work with further: color it, apply textures, apply various filters and effects, add fonts, and the like. An indispensable tool in creating modern illustrations is graphics tablets - devices for entering information created by hand directly into a computer. Consists of a pen and a flat tablet that is sensitive to pressure or proximity of the pen. In addition, graphics tablets offer enthusiasts work options that enable them to achieve professional results.

They release their own apps for glasses that can read out articles and build special LCD screens inside the magazine. Although, it should be noted that such experiments are very expensive nowadays and even large publications do not carry them out often, limiting themselves to releasing special issues with a small circulation. The computer expands the variety of means for creating illustrations not only with new tools, but also with imitation of old ones, so separating the use of traditional and new tools in one image becomes problematic. Computer technology influences the author’s usual style, becomes unrecognizable, and takes on a new meaning. Mixed techniques allow you to combine completely different materials. Animation literally brings static characters to life. The video takes illustration into genres in which it has never been seen before. In general, we can conclude that modern illustration is moving along the path of technological progress. There is a possibility of using 3D technologies, which are gradually gaining a significant place in the world. As a result of this, the final separation of illustration from the “paper” era is possible. |
